I write to you now, in the knowledge that I may never see, nor speak to you again. We have been found.
We had always been running on borrowed time - it can be considered a miracle that it had lasted this long - and yet I thought that it might go on forever. For her sake, I wish it had gone on forever.
As I write this, they are closing in on our location with full knowledge of her. It was a mistake to enter this city. I ignored the warnings and while my foolish eyes were blind, checkpoints have slithered into place. We will not be able to escape without falling into their trap. They will ensnare up or kill us trying. But

Staring out the window at the asphalt drop, looking like a day-dreamer. Aloof enough not to be bothered, but not ridged enough to be of any note to people. Another ten minutes and lunch will be over. Afternoon lessons and no on will bother me. Everything is normal. Everything is calm. Everything is as it should be.
Hm.
I really want to shift my position. The pain has been throbbing through me, but I've been fidgeting all day. Someone's already commented on it, and at this rate people really will notice. Just stare out the window like a day-dreamer, waiting for a normal lesson, and everything is fine.
